Richard Shaw
MSc, DipESS, MCThA
I trained at the European Shiatsu School and am a member of the Complementary Therapists Association (Embody).
I run a private practice and work for charities and community groups in Hackney, Islington and Camden, and offer corporate stress management consultancy and on-site massage.
I have had a long association with the Stress Project (a north London charity) both as a shiatsu practitioner and as facilitator of classes on Qi Gong, shiatsu and relaxation. I also carry out initial assessment interviews with clients referred to the Stress Project, in order to help them to choose a suitable therapy.
I work holistically, adapting treatments to suit the individual client, and incorporating techniques from disciplines such as Tuina (traditional Chinese massage), Sotai (facilitated stretching) and Indian head massage.
I have also worked for many years as an editor and writer and I have contributed to numerous books and articles on health, nutrition and complementary medicine (including the ‘Alternative Answers’ series on Back Problems, Pain, Asthma and Allergies and Arthritis and Rheumatism), as well as distance learning modules for the Royal College
of Nursing.
